Tracking a KSRTC bus depends entirely on the state, as Karnataka (red buses) and Kerala (blue/white buses) use completely separate apps and systems. Here’s how to find the right app for each so you're not left waiting at the stop.
You just want to know where your bus is.
But tracking a KSRTC bus is tricky because there isn't just one KSRTC. There's one for Karnataka (the red buses) and a totally separate one for Kerala (the white and blue ones). They handle tracking very differently.
For a long time, tracking a Karnataka KSRTC bus was impossible. That's finally changing. They are launching a Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System (VTMS) that will let you track 8,000 buses from an app.
It's supposed to show live locations on a map and give you actual arrival times. Each bus is getting a tracker that updates its position every minute.
The system is being installed now, so it isn't live yet, but it's coming soon. When it does launch, the feature will likely be inside the official "KSRTC AWATAR" booking app.
Some unofficial apps like "Track KSRTC Live" exist, but they aren't reliable. They might work in a pinch, but don't count on them.
Kerala's KSRTC is a bit ahead. They have an official app specifically for tracking called 'Where is my KSRTC'. This is your best bet.
For booking tickets, they have another app called "Ente KSRTC". And if you book your ticket through a service like redBus, you can often use their app to see the bus's live location. The frustration of waiting for a bus that shows up 45 minutes late is exactly what these apps are meant to solve.
